So, I've been on a DC kick. After practically gnawing through Batman: Year One (Frank Miller OM NOM NOM), I decided to head back to Atlas Comics to find some more DC goodness. I didn't really want to dive into convoluted Justice League... holy crap there are too many alternate worlds and universes and they just make my head spin.
SO I decided to put on my Fangirl Thinking Cap. I wanted someone moody, hot but not conventionally hot... could help if his morals were ambiguous... and crazy side characters are always a plus.
Well, he had a shitty movie but Jonah Hex is pretty damn badass. I was introduced to him through the Batman: The Animated Series episode and the DC Animated short, so I figured... hey, let's try this guy out. I ended up buying the second trade paperback (they didn't have the first), but most of his stories are one-shots and it was very easy to get into.
The writers are consistent, which makes me happy, and though the art varies I think they're all pretty good.
As far as crazy side-characters, El Diablo is a blast. Basically some poor schmuck got possessed by the spirit of vengeance (maybe he's the Specter's Zorro-loving cousin or something) who makes him ride around like aforementioned TV hero at night and do crazy things in the name of vengeance. How Jonah Hex keeps a straight face around this guy's costume, I'll never know.
So, uh, Jonah Hex. Love it. Want more. Anyone else read it?
COMING SOON: My copy of "Runaways" eeeeee! Lesbian aliens and dinosaur empaths!
