Planetarian (http://vndb.org/v34)

It's Key-made, and it's a single-night play.

Narcissu is another famous short one, but it's depressing as hell and not really my favorite kind to play.

Wanko to Kurasou (http://vndb.org/v812) is relatively short (<10hrs for a single path), and honestly the main character is extremely well/creatively written and gives a lot of insight into life. However, most ppl can never get past the fact it's about 'dog girls' (shrug).

Here's my VNDB list, and I have most of these games so you can just give me a flash drive. Not all have English TL though...

You could read some of my nearly 5 year old thoughts about Planetarian here.

Princess Waltz might be a good beginner thing.

(Holy crap I used to write like this!)

Not sure if I'd classify Princess Waltz as short though :3
20-30hrs is going into medium range visnovs. If you're willing to put that amount of time in, I'd hammer you to play G-Senjou no Maou
(Sharin no Kuni also, but my post for that one has spoilers!)

AKB2's drama writing >>> KEY, anyday, anytime!
Key just has more moe =P
AKB2 has far more GAR though~ (such kickass main characters!)

most of them isn't that long if you just do 1 route, except little busters in my experience.  also, some of them are like semi-rpg semi-visual novels, so if you can go through FFX, these are a fraction of the length.

G-Senjou is doable in 10-15 for single route, especially if you do one of the earlier heroines, it never felt too long for me though, read it so we can adore upon non-chan's moe-ness. --> pic related

single path in clannad is like 10 hrs.

oh yeah, pick Key if you want more generic, put yourself in the MC's shoes kind of story.  but if you want more well developed MC go for AKB2, oh btw AKB2 stories are really weird, so not your lets go to school everyday kind of thing.

oh, I would pick one with H-scenes, well, they make time go by faster as there's a goal at the end kind of.  It is like, achievement unlocked, or character clear milestone.  but eh, ecchi all the time Snape kills the story when you want to enjoy it.  I thought shuffle was a bit too ecchi. Also, umm I would pick a voiced VN over non-voiced any day.

I'm actually in here to offer a recommendation, for once.

Anybody who enjoyed Katawa Shoujo and is interested in playing more OELVNs, let me suggest Christine Love's works. I've been bored and a little under the weather the last couple days so I've had a chance to play some of them.

Digital: A Love Story
don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story

Both of these titles feature really solid writing, have some neat plot twists, and are available for free. Neither are particularly lengthy, either (about 2 hours apiece), so don't worry about time commitments.

"don't take it personally" is especially good, I think; I really bought into the setting and the characters. Some of the KS production staff apparently worked on it, as well.

Lemme hear what you think. And if you like both of these, Ms. Love also has one more commercial VN that's selling for $9.99 on Steam right now.

Analogue: A Hate Story

I'm going to buy it pretty soon, but if anyone plays it before I do, lemme know how it is.

Analogue's been running the rounds across all the otaku circles lately with mostly positive opinions. I want to check it out myself at some point.

Also, I heard that Raide worked on it. Kinda crazy.

Anyway, you should play the other two games, too.
