I haven't really caught anything at all in a while since I've been busy blitzing the gym leaders. Right now I need to catch a Snorlax that's blocking Diglett's Cave and then I can crush the last 3 gyms.

I got a Surfing Pikachu from Japan via the GTS tonight! It cost me a Ditto, but at least I don't need to wait for Yellow Forest's North American download!

Now I'm adjusting my team so I'll have a more balanced attack to bring to bear against the R2 Gym Leaders. Might make another Elite Four run, too.

...Actually, Sollosi, nevermind the Piplup. I think what I really need is a Barboach/Whiscash... or even a Mudkip...

Still not a problem.  The only water pokemon I struggle to send over are legendaries, Huntail, Gorebyss, and Milotic.  I'll even breed some babies when I'm tired of jobhunting today.

OK, now that I know that HG and SS have built-in National Dexes, I am totally going to get SS and trade myself a customized team of badasses.  Here's what I want:

Cyndaquil (starter)
Leafeon (BP Swords Dance, physical sweeper/tank)
Some kinda water or electric
Some kinda normal or fighting
Some kinda dragon or Tyranitar or something
Some kinda ghost or psychic or dark or something

Well, any suggestions for those last four?  I'm pretty set on the first two, but I want a reasonable physical/special balance.

Sollosi, for kicks I decided to breed one more Mudkip after you traded that one to me via the Internets. I'm glad I did, too. It's not that your Mudkip wasn't up to par, but the one I got had a slightly better nature and is female to boot!

Now all I need to round out my team completely is a Spinarak with Sp. Atk+ nature. Unfortunately, there are no Spinarak in SoulSilver and the GTS morons all want Shaymin or Darkrai or (insert unreasonable demand here).

I'll breed a few Spinarak tonight and see what turns up.  I'm pretty sure my Spinarak/Ariados is from the bonus area in FireRed or LeafGreen.

I did finally manage a GTS trade for a Spinarak (swapped a Ledyba for it) but it's not Sp. Atk+ so the deal is still on. Quiet or Modest natures would be the best of the best. Also, if you're tired of running around hatching eggs, you can go hunt wild Ariados on Route 229 (at night, of course) - I'm not particular that it has to be a Spinarak.

I think I'll use the Mudkip you sent me instead of the one I bred, since female starters are in demand.

Nevermind the Spinarak thing. I hatched my own (with a Quiet nature) just tonight while taking a break from a paper I was writing.

My fighting team should be all set for the time being. Time to clear out the Kanto Gyms and snag Raikou and Entei!

Okay, so two things:

First off, you can totally get Suicune in this game. I forget who thought you couldn't, but you can. I was battling it all night long.

Second, I didn't actually get Suicune because legendaries in this game are fucking bullshit. I understand making them reasonably difficult to capture, but in HG/SS the catch rates are goddamn impossible! What, do I need a million Dusk Balls, a Breloom with Spore, and a False Swipe user? Even then it'd probably take me 2 dozen tries.

Man, fuck HG/SS. Even in D/P I could at least catch a goddamn Palkia without using 75 different Pokeballs.
