I can haxor us leaf blocks for a custom leaf layout, and hide some redstone circuitry in there to have blinking lights.

Making auto-blinking lights is pretty simple...

B = block (underlined = redstone on top)
T = redstone torch (attached to side of adjacent block)
R = redstone dust

BTR
R B
T R
B B
R T
TBR

That setup will blink indefinitely, and you can build other circuits off of it to add blinking lights.

The latest minecraft update is amazing. A lot of awesome things were added.

I won't list them all, but there's a new water mob...

On the downside spiders can now climb walls, but a new weapon was added that may be able to help with that.

Was running around on the multiplayer server and saw that some squid had spawned in shallow water.

Also, cake is impossible to craft in multiplayer because you can't milk cows yet :(
(I mean, you can get milk buckets with the server-op /give command, but milk buckets can't be obtained legitimately yet)

Saw some lava on the world map.  Went to investigate.  Turned out it was touching a tree, which caught on fire as soon as I got within range.  Tree was located in a forest biome.  This was the result.

The UVa one belongs to Brooks, a guy I showed the CAINE Minecraft page to just to bring up the map.  My guess, he later looked it up via Google, but he's okay as far as I know.  He's also invited us to play on the Runecraft server that a few people he knows are setting up.

I think the other IP belongs to his brother, but I can't say for sure.

So, I was randomly watching some guy's let's play on youtube and came across this challenge.

There's a specific world seed you can enter that will spawn you inside a spider dungeon.  The challenge is basically to survive.  Since you start out with no weapons or torches, you have just your bare fists at the beginning.

(obviously playing on peaceful would make the whole thing pointless)

Also...

There's another challenge that's far more difficult: The 404 Challenge.  World seed 404 has a gravel area that when mined will collapse into a huge cave that's filled with monsters.  Your goal is to use your first day to gather supplies, then take the plunge and survive as long as you can.  The catch: you can't place regular torches.  Redstone torches are fine, as are jack-o-lanterns and glowstone.
