Alert: the IP for the server has changed.  I've set up a DNS for it now that gets updated every hour, so hopefully if people just use that then this will matter a lot less in the future.

Will PM the info to anyone interested.

As a side note, monsters have been turned off for quite a while.  I don't know when we're going to turn them back on.  Disabling monsters in SMP effectively sets the difficulty to Peaceful, enabling health regeneration when you take damage.

Welcome to Birch House.

While not complete yet, Birch House already boasts a massive occupancy capacity, a giant deck for hosting your cookouts, and a giant chandelier in the main hall.  When complete, it will be the ideal location for your vacation getaway.

(I forgot to turn smooth lighting on for this screenshot, so that's why the stairs have the dark areas)

Before anyone asks, I didn't build this completely within Minecraft.

Programs used:
Minecraft Structure Planner - exterior design
MCEdit - placing structure into the world (seed: sandy beaches plz)
INVedit - materials and tools for constructing interior

Texture pack:
It's a custom one that's mostly default but has some stuff taken from the Painterly Pack.  Most notably the glass block texture, because the stupid streaks on the default glass texture finally annoyed me enough.

Once I finish it, I'll probably use MCEdit to drop it in somewhere on the server.  I don't really feel like obtaining the over 12000 wood that it would take, not even through the server /give command.  And that's just the wood planks for the walls, not counting fences, stairs, doors, torches, and wooden slabs.

The thing is 65x53 in total, counting the deck and stairs down to the sand, and the roof peaks out at 24 blocks tall, not counting the ground level...

By the way, the server is whitelisted, so anyone who wants to join should get me their account name so I can add it to the whitelist.

Minecraft Structure Planner is a nice program, but has some drawbacks like not having all of the blocks available to place, most notably stairs and doors.  MCEdit is hard to use at first, but extremely powerful.  INVedit just lets you edit your inventory for a given world.

I'll probably post my custom texture pack at some point, as well as the language file I made to go with it so that item names match their new icons.  Installing the language file currently requires editing minecraft.jar, hopefully Notch will allow texture packs to override it in the future...

Uh, I guess I'll leave the server at 1.5 until we finish the minecart thing.  So save a copy of your 1.5 minecraft.jar before updating...

Either that or we shift the whole thing down one block.  Not updating is definitely more feasible.

And by the way, I've already built a nether portal in preparation for the 1.6 server update.  It's underneath the glowstone obelisk.

Okay, 1.6 is officially out, and I can say I'm not updating client or server.

Server because of the aforementioned issue of blocks no longer being able to be placed at the top layer (so we can finish the minecart thing).

Client because they disabled Advanced OpenGL (i.e. Occlusion Culling, where the graphics card won't render objects that aren't in the player's view) and I get a massive framerate boost from it.

If anyone who plans on using the server wants to update, I recommend backing up your 1.5_01 minecraft.jar first, as that will be needed to connect to it.

For Will and anyone else who wants to get on the server, but updated to 1.6, I've made a patch that will give you a 1.5_01 minecraft.jar.  It's approximately 100% more legal for me to distribute the patch than the 1.5_01 minecraft.jar...

It won't overwrite your existing 1.6 minecraft.jar, so you can rename the files to get back on 1.6, which you should do before going into a singleplayer world with 1.6 stuff like tall grass, dead shrubs, maps, and trap doors.

Before running the patch, update to 1.6.6.

Then grab the patch: http://xt.desudesudesu.org/download/minecraft1.6.6-to-1.5_01-patch.zip

Instructions are in the readme.txt file inside the archive.

We're really close to being done with what we're building up at the top layer of the map, and once that's done, I'll update the server.
