The thing is, outside of the six middle Endless Eight episodes, the second season is perfectly watchable, and answers some things that the first season left open ("Haven't I met you before? A long time ago?" and the production of the movie).  I believe the first season even made reference to Endless Eight, as I do remember Kyon mentioning a "summer of hell" or something to that degree.

So basically, remove the redundant parts and it's a decent season.

Now the wait for a decent 720p release begins, since I can't decode 1080 fast enough to watch it...

Got Mazui's 1080 version. Waiting until my little brother has time so I can watch it with him.

I just watched Mazui's version.  It was really good (and really long =P).

these aren't really spoliers, but yeaaa....

if you've seen the movie and refer back to the opening of the first season, you'll notice them having the hot pot (with kyon as the reindeer XD) as well as that part with yuki in the snow on the rooftop...

Wow the movie was good. Very well done. Kinda cool to see it right before Christmas too.

So glad I got into this series when I did and not sooner, because iono if I'd have the willpower not to watch a camrip.

I finally watched it.  I have to say that this felt more like 6-episode-long marathon than a movie.  People said this movie would make up for Endless Eight, but it just made me think "WHY DID WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH ENDLESS EIGHT AT ALL?"  This would have been a great second season for Haruhi if you replaced all but two Endless Eight episodes with this as an arc of 6-8 episodes.  It even fits with Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody.  The length is the only real complaint I have with Disappearance.  There were some scenes that felt like they could have been trimmed down and still have the same effect.  The movie's pacing really dragged until Haruhi started acting like Haruhi, and then it felt like the series I watched back in 2006.

This is not the best anime movie I have seen this year, but it has the best ending for its respective franchise.

really? i felt like you connected with the movie more after suffering through the endless eight--not because it was a complete letdown having to suffer through all 8 episodes, but because you practically felt the agony that yuki suffered through all those 15,532 loops

Endless Eight had failed in trying to make me feel like Nagato.  After the discovery of the time loop, I knew that the homework was going to be the way out of the loop.  So, I spent the rest of Endless Eight getting mad at the characters for not doing anything to progress the story.  There is a problem when you can skip 6 out of 8 episodes and miss nothing.  This was exacerbated with the movie.  I did want Nagato to do something, but warping reality was not exactly it.

I just want to point out that this movie really made me appreciate the entire series a lot more.  It may have also irritated an old "wound" from Summer 2009, but Disappearance is exactly what I wanted for the sequel to Melancholy back in 2006.  Better late than never, in my opinion.

Thanks to Coalgirls doing what Mazui was too lazy to do, I've now obtained and seen the movie in 720p.

I didn't think the pacing was all that bad.
Spoiler:
So many movies/tv shows/games/whatever go too fast through the whole "it's just another ordinary day, then WHAM" thing.  They do it so fast there isn't really a chance to take the atmosphere in before everything changes.  This one really made me feel like it was any other ordinary day of Kyon's life before stuff started happening.  Then I was right there with him trying to figure it out as I went along, and beginning to figure it out faster than he does.  Then they throw in stuff like "John Smith" just to keep us on our toes trying to think back to Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody.  After that happens the pacing does get faster, but the slower part was necessary to set the proper tone and for the setup of Kyon WTFing.

I actually re-watched Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody after the movie, just to remind myself of what happened.
