We're going to have some general rules, plus specific ones for each board as necessary. Rules subject to change at any time, but I'll try to be nice and make it known when I change something. General rules: - Try to stay on topic. Derailing a thread can be awesome if done correctly, but don't do it to every thread.
- Post topics in the board they pertain to most. If nothing applies, post it in the spam board.
- Every post you make has an edit button. Double posting is permitted, but if it's just something small, that's what the edit button is for. There is currently a very obscure bug I'm trying to track down regarding the edit button, where occasionally it won't work. If this happens, just double post. I have an idea for how to work around it entirely, but I need to get around to writing it...
- Language is not restricted, but keep everything within reason. We don't want to scare off new members. We have our own filter that takes care of that for us.
- "The Internet isn't your stupid cell phone, and when you're on a public forum, quit typing like you're being shot at while blindfolded while running through a tornado." <-- general advice everyone should follow
- Wordfilters: we have some. They're generally meant to be funny. Cope with them, or bypass them (it's not that hard to do it without putting dashes, numbers, spaces, other punctuation, etc. in the middle of the word). They tend to get more and more insidious as time goes on, then before the fall semester I'll remove a shitton of them.
- We also have a series of fun user ranks set up that you'll get just by posting. There's a thread documenting the special hidden ones here. Feel free to contribute as you find them.
- Alex is a guy.
- While we don't have a set-in-stone limit for the size of your signature, please keep it reasonable. I don't really want to have to impose a hard limit.
- If posting spoilers, use spoiler tags. If your image is a spoiler, flag it as such with the checkbox when you post.
Board-specific rules: - News: This board is only for club announcements. If you want to plan your party or other random outing, post it in Spam.
- Comics: Nothing yet.
- Animation: Nothing yet.
- Intellectual Exploration: Keep it civil.
- Spam: Despite the name, this is really just the general catch-all board. Treat it as such.
Hark decided to be a fag and merge music, movies, and games into this board. Enjoy.
- Hentai Hot Tub: Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content is allowed. Don't post illegal shit. Since we have some prudes who insist on it, you have to be 18 to view it. Unfortunately, we don't have any form of automatic age verification based on your profile info, so we can't just require you to have accurate profile information as a legal sidestep. Therefore if you want access to this board you must:
- be a CAINE member
- be a registered member on the forums
- ask me to add you to the group in person or in a live internet communication medium such as IRC, AIM, YIM, MSN, Steam, or Google Talk.
- Our eventual forum migration will fix this, as SMF has a mod that will do precisely what we want for controlling group access.
Possible questions people might have:Q. What's this (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST) thing I see every now and then? Are people really getting banned? A. Nope. It's just there for the lulz. Mods and Admins have a link on each post that adds that notice once per click. Every now and then I'll post a thread showing who has the most. Move along now, nothing to see here. Coincidentally, if anyone does actually end up being banned, their user rank will be changed to "Banned". That's how you know if they're banned for real. Q. Does this forum have bbcode? I see people with formatting in their posts but there's no buttons or anything. A. Yeah, we have all the standard stuff (bold, italics, underline, links, quotes), and some random extra things (spoiler tags!). Until either Hark or I get around to writing the buttons to insert it (spoiler, it'll probably be me), you'll just have to type them. Fortunately now I've made a thread that goes over everything.Q. You mention a hentai board, but I don't see it. Where is it? A. It's there, you just can't see it without being in a specific member group. Unfortunately, we don't have a way of screening people joining the group or at least making them claim they're of legal age to view teh pr0nz, so until further notice it's hidden. I don't really like it, but we have some moralfags who actually care. If you poke around a bit (by changing the URL in your location bar) you can find the member group page and join the NSFW group. Q. What's this "dev" you keep talking about? A. http://dev.desudesudesu.org/. It's the development version of the forums. Most of the time it's exactly the same as the regular ones, but every now and then there will be one or two extra features that haven't been migrated over yet. Things may randomly break on dev, but generally we do our best to leave it in a working state. I read and post exclusively from dev, if that's any indication. Check in every now and then and see if there's any new features. You can also follow the development of lulzbb in this thread. Feature suggestions are welcome, but really complex ones take a while... Q. Can I post NSFW material outside of Hentai Hot Tub? A. No, because Dave wants to be able to read the forums in Stacks. Q. Dave's logic seems a bit... strange. Why is that? A. We don't know either. We just call it Dave Logic. Q. What does Dave Logic dictate? A. Here's what's known so far: If it's borderline NSFW, it's NSFW. There is no such thing as a grey area. ( Promotions posted... ...Dave Logic!) Sex (and tentacles) should not be used in the context of card games. ( Thread (we didn't really know what to say about this one)) Mnemosyne is guro. ( Thread, contains rebuttal) Q. I'm guessing that a very small percentage of people actually read rules threads. How can I subtly make the fact that I've read this thread known? A. Post somewhere and include the text "screw the money, I have rules!" in your post.

Double posting is permissible but should really only take place if the topic's been dead for a while, so that you can bump it, bring attention to it, etc. Use common sense/logical reasoning. This means you, Hark. ;____;

Updated because double posting for lulz is quite all right. Also added the shit about getting B& at the bottom, since I used the B& link on someone other than Hark, theTOM, or Malex for the first time a few minutes ago.

Updated to clarify that we actually have an NSFW material policy and will be enforcing it from here on out.

Reworded more stuff and added a couple more questions that people might have. Especially since the hot tub is mentioned here.
