Can you even believe that this guy shares a voice-actor with Date?

Hahaha, I don't think it's from any episode since there are also covers by the voice-actors for Katsura and Gintoki. So I think it just might be a thing? I'm not really sure about the circumstances.
But, but! There's one (serious!) story arc where Hijikata (aka Date) becomes a hardcore otaku, and it is the most hilarious thing ever.

Okay, I'm just going to, go watch this arc; mustsee mustsee mustseeit >o<

Uhhhhh, I'll give you the episode numbers, but I can never really tell if Gintama is (as) funny to people who don't watch it regularly. I mean, the humor is pretty heavily character-based, so you really need some kind of background for the comedy to have its full effect.
Nicky! Second opinion! As someone who's been shown a hilarious story arc without any past experience with the characters!
But yeah, episodes 101-105. It's a serious story arc. Somehow. It's so great. But it's also halfway into the first series, so you can decide whether or not to watch it. Let me know if you want any background on any of the characters. Or, you know, you could look it up yourself.

Haha, I know exactly the arc Alex is talking about and personally, it's one of my favorites!! I was surprised at how moving it actually was...but maybe that's just me?
I duno, haha. This arc has some incredibly stupid moments--moments that I feel anyone would find it funny--especially otakus, haha.
But having watched a couple of random epidodes myself without knowing anything about the characters, I thought Gintama was absolutely hilarious and fantastic!! To be honest, it's what gave me the push to watch all of Gintama; to want to get to know these amazing characters.
So yea! Give it a chance!! In the meantime I'll post screencaps 8D

YEAH. OKAY. JUST DO IT. It's streamed on Crunchyroll, if you aren't morally opposed to that. Well, actually, I think I have the files, so you could get it from me, yeah!
(Is this video backwards...? Youtube confuses me...)

Ohohohohohohoho, it's safe to post a couple pictures at a time, right? I haven't been overselling Gintama lately so it's safe to post pictures now, right? RIGHT?? 8D
O, haha, if you want to know what's happening in this picture, two "rival" characters were handcuffed together and, after eating food laced with laxatives, both of them needed to use the bathroom. Badly. Soooooo, they tried to strategize how they would..."do their business" while handcuffed together, ahahahahahhaha XD

And yes, before you ask, this man does have a mustache-sideburn-combo growing out of his nose. O, and a uni-brow. Did I mention that he works at a host club?
