So I finished this at work today.  For some reason it didn't so much grab me until the mid-point, but then my interest was sparked enough to push through to the end.

Reasonably sad ending.  But not an unexpected one.

Did anyone else think Sabre was Jone of Arc before they made it obvious who she was?

Who has an english copy of the game? :D

I did. I'm still kind of concerned that she's King Arthur. I mean. Seriously guys.

Honya or Dave would know more about the game(s).

I was in the "Sabre = Joan of Arc" camp.  I can understand some legends changing the gender of the heroes they are based on, but King Arthur was too much.  The only way that would work if and only if every character of Arthurian legend was transgendered, and that notion is absurd.

I can't believe I did not realize who Archer really was until the next to last episode.

Actually, I know plenty about the game, too. I finished "playing" it over the break.

I thought Saber was Joan of Arc, too, and frankly that would have made a hell of a lot more sense. In fact, in the prequel story, Fate/Zero, there's even another Servant who thinks Saber is Joan. But whatever.

From what I remember of the anime, it was all right, but it adapts its main plot from the first route in the game, "Fate," which is the least interesting story FSN has to offer overall. Even if you've seen the anime, FSN the game is worth checking out for its "Heaven's Feel" route, which is fucking awesome.

I got my copy of the game from Dave, but I have it now, too. You can get the translation patch from Mirror-Moon.

So there I was at work, sitting and watching.  We start to get the scenes of Sabre in the past.  I'm thinking, "They're finally going to just come out and say she's Joan."  . . . "That landscape looks more like Ireland or Britain than France."  . . . "Why's she walking up to a sword stuck in some altar?  Joan never... Arturia?  What?  Oh fuck you, Japan."

Thought I had a Japanese copy somewhere but all I can find is my copy of Hollow Atraxia, which they haven't patched yet. :(  I should be able to track it down before school kicks in again.

If not, as a shark once said, sir, I rely on your kindness.

Edit: Downloading what should be the moonspeak version of Fate right now.  Also getting Unlimited Codes, the fighting game for PS2.  XT, we'll need to load this into your system.

well Tom, you HAVE played Sengoku Rance where they turned Useugi Kenshin into a girl, the only difference is that a few japanese historians are kinda arguing over the fact whether Kenshin was a guy in the first place (since there are strange behaviors in Kenshin's life that are just unexplainable... unless it was that time of the month).
Alice-soft also turned Yamamoto Isoroku into a girl, which I was kinda offended by since he's one of my most admired military commanders (for your Americans who don't know history, he planned/commanded the attack on Pearl Harbor)
So really Arturia shouldn't be THAT hard for you to accept.

I never thought she was Joan for a few reasons:
1. Not religious enough - this is huge. Her entire legend revolves around visions...
2. The heroes spirits of FSN are all with legends of personal achievement in combat (or in Medea's case, murdering people <_<). In the game they explain it as the more famous a hero's feat of arms is OR the more famous their weapon also becomes -> the more powerful the servants' Noble Phantasms get. Joan was never known for being a good fighter, she doesnt have any legendary equipment, hell she wasn't even known for being a good commander, she was just an epic level morale booster for a depressed France.*
3. ...and if Joan wore a dress like Saber did, the Brits would have lost part of their excuse for executing her.

*And if you're interested. Apparently when she met the dauphin (spell?) king-to-be of France, records said they went into a room by themselves, and after a while he came out grinning widely... wonder what happened in there =9

so I'm still not really sure how someone in Fate/Zero could think Saber was Joan. I never guessed Arturia, but one thing did strike me early - which hero has a sword so famous they have to hide it. Heck if transgendering entered my mind I would have said Roland. Arthur didn't save Europe from Islamic expansion or cut a passage through a mountain <_<, and since Durandal never had the problem of confusion as Excaliber and Caliburn did...

If you still don't have it I can bring my copy of FSN to the next meeting or something (if I can remember).

I'm trying to remember if we had a thread regarding the movie...  Guess I'll just resurrect this.

Not enough Caster or Rider.  Too much "I am the bone of my sword" over and over and over.

Also swordsmanship skill is directly proportional to hard work and guts and has nothing to do with millennia of training.

I think Anon described it best: "I love Fate/Stay Night as much as the next guy, but Unlimited Blade Works was less like watching a movie and more like watching the highlights of a football game."

I know that they couldn't have possibly fit all of UBW's content into such a short window, but I still came out of it feeling a little dissatisfied. At least there was a lot of Rin, although I wanted more fanservice.

Too much "I am the bone of my sword" over and over and over.

Spoiler:
I am the bone of my sword.
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
    Unknown to death.
    Nor known to life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, those hands will never hold anything.
So as I pray, 'Unlimited Blade Works'.

  • Fate/stay night and its three path (Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel [aka true end])
  • Fate/hallow ataraxia - fandisk and non-canon sequel (its scenario doesn't follow any of FSN's ends)
  • Fate/zero - light novel canon prequel, Baka-tsuki is currently translating vol4.
  • and the random versus/adventure games, like Fate/unlimited codes, Fate/tiger colosseum, and Fate/extra

also lol I just found out--- Rin summons Lancer in fate/extra x)
