http://www.nanowrimo.org/ Me and Citrus and a bunch of other people are going to be writing novels this month. This thread is for just general ideas and discussion to help and inspire participants. So who else is working on this?

Since most of you haven't actually signed up yet, here's somethings I got from the sign-up email: Btw, "Erotic Fiction" is one of the categories you can choose XD Before you head off to begin training those typing fingers, we wanted to offer a few bits of advice. You'll find many great tips in the forums, and we'll be sending pep talks directly to your inbox during November. But for now, here's a quick overview of the three-and-a-half things we wish we had known for our first NaNoWriMo.
1) It's okay to not know what you're doing. Really. You've read a lot of novels, so you're completely up to the challenge of writing one. If you feel more comfortable outlining your story ahead of time, do so. But it's also fine to just wing it. Write every day, and a book-worthy story will appear, even if you're not sure what that story might be right now.
2) Do not edit as you go. Editing is for December. Think of November as an experiment in pure output. Even if it's hard at first, leave ugly prose and poorly written passages on the page to be cleaned up later. Your inner editor will be very grumpy about this, but your inner editor is a nitpicky jerk who foolishly believes that it is possible to write a brilliant first draft if you write it slowly enough. It isn't. Every book you've ever loved started out as a beautifully flawed first draft. In November, embrace imperfection and see where it takes you.
3) Tell everyone you know that you're writing a novel in November. This will pay big dividends in Week Two, when the only thing keeping you from quitting is the fear of looking pathetic in front of all the people who've had to hear about your novel for the past month. Seriously. Email them now about your awesome new book. The looming specter of personal humiliation is a very reliable muse.
3.5) There will be times you'll want to quit during November. This is okay. Everyone who wins NaNoWriMo wanted to quit at some point in November. Stick it out. See it through. Week Two can be hard. Week Three is much better. Week Four will make you want to yodel.
I'll post a compilation for my efforts once first chapter is up.

Everyone bug the hell out of me to get work done on mine. I swore I was going to finish it this year! In a little while I think I'll share my idea here on the board. I think I'll register on the website once I have 10,000 words or so (should be a little less than a week from now).

Hrm, I might have to take another crack at NaNoWriMo. Maybe this year I can make it past 3k words before I realize my writing is drivel and tear up the paper.

I'm behind schedule as well. It doesn't help that I've translated 4 songs in the past 4 days and been watching too much anime as always.

Heh, I think the whole point is that it's supposed to be drivel. I'm going to get everything on paper now and then make it actually good later on.

Progress reminder for those involved: You should be hitting 8.3k words by the end of today! (dammit, I'm still at 6.9k atm)

Rawr. I'm at 4k. My goal is 6k words by the end of tonight, and hopefully 8k before departure to Nekocon. I have 6 "strikes" (days I go without writing anything) to spare this month, and so far I've only used 2. If I play my cards right, I'll only take 1 more strike during 'con weekend. At least I know what my next 3 chapters are going to be. I have three principal heroines to introduce, 2000 words at a time.

Haruhi. Writing about tea is serious fuckin' business. Spent a bunch of time writing about a tea set followed by deciding which blend of tea I want to describe right afterward. PS: Would love to have this tea set or try this blend.

According to proper pacing, anyone going for the full NaNoWriMo goal should have hit 20,000 words by last night. Of course, ( Nekocon, but Snape too ) killed pacing for most of us. Good luck getting back on track this weekend~

Okay. I just finished my steaming pile of crap. 50,055 words forming a big, convoluted mess that can be barely called a storyline.
how's everyone else?
